Description:

The College Board, the national educational organization, is conducting a search for a Project Manager –Program Initiatives to work within the Advanced Placement (AP®) program. This position is based out of the New York City headquarters office.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Advanced Placement program is seeking a Project Manager to manage several new initiatives that include new AP course development in the STEM domain, as well as a writing competition and service component that will benefit students and tie closely to the Advanced Placement Program. 

The Project Manager will work with cross-functional teams comprised of staff from various departments within the College Board, as well as external vendors and consultants to rigorously plan, control and transition all work outcomes into an operational environment. To this end, the Project Manager will establish and maintain a system for project management integrating all work streams to ensure scope/quality, schedule, and cost alignment.

In addition to proven project management capabilities, the ideal candidate will have education industry experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads multiple, concurrent project teams through initiation, planning, executing / monitoring and controlling, and closing
  • Ensures all work under management is well-defined and planned.  This includes thorough scope definition, estimation, cost-budgeting, resourcing, scheduling, and placing under ongoing change control.
  • Identifies and manages to critical- and near-critical path work streams.
  • Is in tune with team member needs, removes obstacles of team members, and encourages and supports the project team.
  • Strives for objective decision making and wherever possible finds or produces data to support significant decisions.
  • Excels at stakeholder management and possesses good listening, speaking, writing and negotiating skills.
  • Ensures effective risk, issue, action, and change management including timely decision making for risks and changes, timely issue resolution, and comprehensive action management.
  • Establishes, maintains, and executes an effective communications plan serving all stakeholder needs.  As part of this, ensures team clarity on objectives, scope, roles, communicates the work plan, and regularly reports meaningful status and performance.
  • Ensures project work products and deliverables are version controlled and properly stored/managed.
  • Abides by, contributes to, and embraces change to project management processes in support of AP and College Board policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, is required. 
  • 5+ years of project management experience is required with demonstrated success in delivering results by employing an effective system for project management.
  • Project management credential a plus:  e.g. CAPM, PMP, PRINCE2, IPMA certification or a project management certificate from an accredited institution.

Related Skills & Other Requirements:
  • Formal project management credential desired:  e.g. CAPM, PMP, PRINCE2, IPMA certification or a project management certificate from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated history of self-learning and continuous professional development
  • Experience managing projects with vendors from outside the organization is preferred.
  • Customer-centric, empathetic, service-oriented, and maintains a project- and organization-first attitude
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Project and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong schedule, cost management, and performance reporting skills are desired.
