Job Title: Laboratory Assistant

Location: Apapa, Lagos

Purpose of the Role

The Laboratory Assistant’s primary function is to provide essential support to the Laboratory Manager. This involves actively participating in the precise testing of raw material samples and finished products. The successful execution of these duties is crucial for maintaining the consistently high quality of all products, ensuring they strictly adhere to established organizational and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities (The Job)

The individual in this role will be responsible for a critical range of laboratory and quality assurance activities:

  • Sample Management: Receiving, accurately logging, and meticulously labelling various samples destined for comprehensive laboratory analysis.
  • Hygiene and Maintenance: Carrying out rigorous sanitation and maintenance work on all laboratory equipment and the surrounding environment to ensure a sterile and contamination-free workspace.
  • Documentation: Preparing formal Certificates of Analysis (CoA) for all outgoing products, which are essential documents provided to customers confirming product quality specifications.
  • Record Keeping: Diligently maintaining detailed and organized Laboratory records and reports, ensuring data integrity and traceability for auditing purposes.
  • Specialized Testing: Conducting specific analytical tests on wheat flour samples to determine crucial parameters, including:
    • Protein content
    • Moisture content
    • Ash content
    • Maltose levels
    • Ascorbic acid content
    • Performing particle size analysis and speck counts for Semolina and Pasta products.
  • Local Content Analysis: Performing quality analysis on local content raw materials, such as Sorghum flour, Maize flour, and Cassava flour.
  • Reagent Preparation: Accurately preparing necessary reagents, particularly for ascorbic analysis, ensuring they are standardized and fit for purpose.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this pivotal role, the candidate must meet the following criteria:

Qualifications

  • Possession of a minimum of five (5) O’ level Credits, which must include English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings, or an equivalent technical qualification.
  • A minimum of an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Science or any relevant and related technical course.

Experience

  • A minimum of two (2) years of practical experience within a similar quality assurance or laboratory environment is required.

  • Collaboration: A proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively with the quality assurance and production teams to identify and support process and product improvements.
  • Analytical Skill: Proficiency in sample collection, preparation, and analysis, consistently maintaining high levels of accuracy and precision in all results.
  • Documentation Skills: Strong competence in documentation and data entry to ensure the reliable, accurate, and secure recording of all test results and associated data.
