Job Search Tip #1 - Understanding The Competitive Environment

"Individuals and organizations who know 'why' will always be ahead of those who merely know 'how'". --- Sola Olubode

When searching for a job, you need to understand these fundamental truths:

1. There is a job for everyone.

2. Finding the job that fits is usually the major challenge for most people. Winners do not not look for the right job; they make the job they have found the right one(Sola O., 2006).

3. Finding a job is job in itself because it involves you "selling yourself" to your prospective employer(Sola O., 2006).

4. Getting a job starts with an interview and hence you must set yourself to look for an interview and not a job(Sola O., 2006).

5. Deciding on your career should be a crucial step in getting a job on time. You need to decide what a suitable job is after a careful analysis of your own self. For example, if you don't know where you want to be in the next 5 years, why would anybody want to hire you?
A careful analysis of yourself will include giving honest thought to your dreams, goals, aspirations, likes and dislikes, training and experience, personality type etc(Sola O., 2006).

While some take to full-time MBA programmes, others opt for Part-time or distance-learning MBA degree. In my own view, it is better to opt for an Online or Part-time MBA course than the full-time. The difference between the two is that in the full-time, the student is required to be physically present at campus site, while in the Online or distance-learning category, the student has his training and course delivery done via online media such as the internet.
