🎯 Job Title: Head of Data Management

Location: Nigeria (Full-Time, On-site)

Role Description: Driving Data Excellence and Innovation

This is a full-time, on-site executive role for the Head, Data Management & Platforms at Union Bank of Nigeria. The incumbent will serve as the principal architect and ultimate guardian of the enterprise data ecosystem, ensuring data functions as a reliable, strategic asset that enhances the bank's operational efficiency and competitive standing.

The Head of Data Management's core responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Overseeing the strategic development, implementation, and continuous governance of the bank's comprehensive data strategies and platform architecture.
  • Data Governance & Integrity: Establishing, enforcing, and monitoring stringent data integrity, governance, and security frameworks. This ensures all data assets are accurate, reliable, and fully compliant with all requisite regulatory standards.
  • Team Leadership: Providing expert mentorship and leadership to a high-performing team of data professionals, fostering a culture defined by technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Architectural Design: Directing the design, optimization, and scaling of robust data architectures, which include the deployment and management of data lakes, data warehouses, and next-generation data platforms.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring absolute compliance with all local and international regulatory requirements pertaining to data management, privacy, and protection.
  • Business Collaboration: Functioning as a critical internal partner, collaborating with various departments (e.g., Risk, Treasury, Operations) to leverage data for insightful business intelligence, thereby supporting organizational goals and optimizing the customer experience.
  • Operational Planning: Developing and executing detailed data management plans designed to effectively support the bank’s immediate objectives and long-term strategic vision.

Essential Qualifications and Expertise

Union Bank is seeking an accomplished professional who possesses a demonstrated track record of success in complex financial data environments.

  • Core Data Expertise: Extensive, practical experience in Data Management, Data Governance, and Data Quality.
  • Technical Mastery: Strong technical proficiency and working knowledge of Database Management, Data Warehousing, Data Analytics, and the deployment of reliable Data Security, Backup, and Disaster Recovery solutions.
  • Integration Proficiency: Proven expertise in the design, maintenance, and scaling of complex Data Integration and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes.
  • Leadership Acumen: Exceptional leadership and team management abilities are required, complemented by strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Industry Experience (Preferred): Previous experience within the financial industry or another highly regulated sector is considered a distinct advantage.
  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related quantitative discipline is mandatory. An Advanced degree (Master's or higher) is highly desirable.
  • Agility: The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to thrive within a fast-paced, high-stakes environment and effectively manage multiple, competing strategic priorities.
