Role Description
The Head of Supply Chain holds primary responsibility
for the strategic development and comprehensive execution of the supply chain
framework. This framework is crucial for supporting operational efficiency,
optimizing cost management, and ensuring service excellence across the entire
airline and its Approved Maintenance Organisation (AMO).
This expansive role encompasses core functions including procurement,
inventory management, logistics, vendor relationship management, and regulatory
compliance. The ultimate objective is to guarantee the uninterrupted,
timely availability of essential aircraft parts, materials, tools, equipment,
and related services. This ensures robust support for all aircraft maintenance,
repair, and overhaul activities, thereby minimizing downtime.
The ideal candidate will possess profound expertise in the
complexities of the aviation supply chain, coupled with demonstrated strong
leadership acumen and significant practical experience navigating stringent
international regulatory compliance standards (e.g., EASA, FAA, etc.).
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include,
but are not limited to, the following strategic and operational duties:
- Strategy
and Optimization:
- Developing
and implementing high-impact strategies designed to elevate tactical and
operational services and achieve measurable cost savings.
- Overseeing
inventory planning and control for all aircraft parts, components,
consumables, and Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
- Optimizing
logistics, distribution networks, and implementing Just-In-Time (JIT)
delivery models to enhance efficiency.
- Monitoring
industry trends and innovations to maintain a competitive and resilient
airline supply chain.
- Team
Leadership and Management:
- Leading
and managing multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams encompassing
procurement, warehousing, logistics, inventory, and contracts management.
- Facilitating
comprehensive coaching and mentoring programs within the department and
actively participating in crucial process improvement projects.
- Sourcing
and Vendor Management:
- Managing
strategic sourcing initiatives and leading high-stakes contract
negotiations with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Maintenance,
Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) providers, and other critical suppliers.
- Establishing
and nurturing long-term strategic supplier relationships and defining
rigorous Service-Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Continuously
monitoring supplier performance, ensuring ongoing compliance, and
proactively managing supply chain risk.
- Conducting
detailed market research to inform strategic sourcing decisions.
- Compliance
and Quality Assurance:
- Ensuring
meticulous record-keeping and complete traceability of all
materials and components.
- Collaborating
closely with Quality Assurance to effectively manage material
non-conformances and product recalls.
- Ensuring
all activities strictly adhere to established organizational policies and
procedures, keeping long-term strategic objectives in mind.
- Upholding
the consistent implementation of quality, safety, and security policies
and procedures across all supply chain operations.
- Ensuring
full compliance with customs regulations, guidelines for handling hazardous
goods, and international trade controls.
- Financial
and Operational Control:
- Developing
and rigorously controlling the annual budget allocated to the Supply
Chain Unit.
- Prioritizing
the timely availability of materials to decisively prevent Aircraft on
Ground (AOG) scenarios.
- Supervising
proper warehousing practices and comprehensive logistics management.
- General
Duties:
- Undertaking
any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Technical
Director.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this prestigious position, candidates
must meet the following requirements:
- Education:
A Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering,
Business Administration, or a closely related field. A Master of Arts (MA)
or Master of Science (MSc) degree is strongly preferred.
- Experience:
A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience within the aviation
Technical Procurement and Supply Chain departments, including 5 or more
years in a significant leadership or managerial role.
- Technical
Expertise:
- A
deep and current understanding of aviation supply chain standards,
aviation maintenance procedures (e.g., MRO operations), and comprehensive
regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency
in computer applications and established ERP/MRO systems (e.g.,
SAP, Oracle, AMOS).
- Core
Competencies:
- Exceptional
Leadership and Management skills capable of inspiring and
directing high-performing teams.
- Superior
Communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Robust
problem-solving skills with a track record of effective
decision-making.
- Advanced
ability in Negotiation and Contract Management.
- Expertise
in Risk Management and Compliance.
- Proficiency
in Process Optimization and Lean Management methodologies.
