The Opportunity: Data Scientist

The Data Scientist is expected to function as a strategic thought partner for diverse cross-functional teams. This involves adeptly leveraging big data to generate, rigorously evaluate, and successfully implement data models and initiatives designed to optimize user experience, conversion rates, and overall profitability.


🔑 Key Responsibilities (Driving Insight and Growth)

The role encompasses critical functions necessary for harnessing data to drive strategic business outcomes:

  • Advanced Analytics & Modeling: The Data Scientist will lead deep-dive data science and data analysis efforts to thoroughly understand the key drivers of platform performance and customer behavior. This includes assisting in building and iteratively prototyping analysis pipelines, alongside developing sophisticated algorithms and business models related to predictive analytics, customer segmentation, marketing attribution, and forecasting.
  • Business Translation & Product Development: This function requires working cross-functionally to convert complex business needs into tangible data science solutions and innovative products. The Data Scientist will analyze Interswitch’s payment processing funnels to identify crucial areas for improvement and strategically leverage data to significantly enhance the firm’s product offerings.
  • Data Quality and Architecture: The individual will take ownership of data integrity by consulting with stakeholders on effective methods for streamlining and standardizing data recording processes. Furthermore, the role involves assisting in building and maintaining Interswitch’s robust data warehouse to support comprehensive reporting, in-depth analysis, and dimensional modeling.
  • Empowering Stakeholders: The Data Scientist will actively implement improvements to Interswitch’s data pipeline (e.g., documentation, anomaly detection, alerting) to empower key internal stakeholders with access to reliable, clean business data. They will effectively interface with various business functions, sharing clear, actionable insights derived from multiple, complex data sources.
  • Strategic Advocacy: The position requires serving as a passionate advocate for data-driven product design, evangelizing insights on performance to help drive incremental gains in the pipeline and revenue. The individual will conduct extensive industry benchmarking to identify and implement the latest trends in Data Science, AI, and Machine Learning to optimize revenue generation and enhance brand preference.
  • Mentorship and Support: The Data Scientist is expected to act as a mentor and coach to team members, fostering a culture of mutual respect and trust while assisting colleagues in leveraging internal communication systems effectively.

  • Education: A University First Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, or a related quantitative field is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Analytical roles, preferably within financial or FinTech institutions, including at least 3 years dedicated to Data Science.
  • Mindset: A demonstrable passion for resolving complex business challenges through expert application of statistical analysis, machine learning methodologies, and advanced data visualization techniques.
