Summary of the Position
The U.S. Consulate General Lagos, Nigeria, is soliciting
applications from eligible and qualified candidates for the position of Safety
Program Coordinator, situated within the critical Facilities Maintenance
(FAC) Section. This role is instrumental in supporting the post's compliance
with occupational safety and health standards and advancing crucial
sustainability objectives.
📝 Role Description:
Duties and Responsibilities
The Safety Program Coordinator (SPC) operates under the
direct supervision of the Facility Manager (FM) and is assigned to the Facility
Management (FAC) section at the U.S. Consulate. The SPC performs the following
responsibilities:
- Safety
Inspection Support: The incumbent assists the Post Occupational Safety
and Health Officer (POSHO) and the Assistant POSHO by conducting safety
inspections across all compounds, encompassing the U.S. Consulate’s
government-owned and leased properties. This is a core function in
maintaining compliance and mitigating workplace hazards.
- Green
Team Liaison: The incumbent acts as the dedicated FAC liaison for all
post-level Green Team projects. These projects focus on enhancing
environmental performance and resource efficiency within the Mission.
- Sustainability
Coordination: The SPC coordinates closely with representatives from
the Political/Economic Section’s Environment, Science, Technology, and
Health (ESTH) unit to provide active support for the Mission's
comprehensive sustainability goals.
- Host
Nation Interface (Future): The job holder, after acquiring familiarity
with the local operational landscape, is expected to act as the FAC
representative to relevant host nation government entities, in
collaboration with the Political and Economic sections.
✅ Required Qualifications
Education Requirements
- Completion
of High School/Secondary School is required.
Experience
- A
minimum of two (2) years of prior experience in an office or
management-related position is a mandatory requirement.
Job Knowledge
- General
knowledge of office working environments is required.
- The
job holder will be required to develop a working knowledge of the
operational environment in the host country, as the position necessitates
acting as the FAC representative to host nation government entities, in
conjunction with the Political and Economic sections. Prior in-depth
knowledge of this environment is not a prerequisite.
- Possessing
a basic understanding of host nation government entities that intersect
with the proposed workload is considered beneficial, as it will inform and
guide future engagements.
Skills And Abilities
- Computer
Literacy: Basic keyboard skills and demonstrated computer literacy,
including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software (e.g.,
Word, Excel), is required.
- Interpersonal
Attributes: The incumbent must be observant, flexible, and
service-oriented. The ability to comfortably and effectively make
presentations is also a requirement.
- Security
Clearance: The ability to successfully obtain and maintain a valid Secret
security clearance is essential for the role.
