Talent Development Manager at PalmPay (Lagos)

A Strategic Opportunity with an Africa-Focused Fintech Powerhouse

PalmPay is recognized not merely as a mobile payments platform but as a formidable Africa-focused fintech powerhouse. Since its inception in 2019, the organization has been diligently constructing the essential financial infrastructure for millions across the continent. With a trajectory of rapid growth, PalmPay’s ambitious vision is paralleled only by its profound commitment to the advancement and professional maturation of the personnel who are instrumental to its success.

The company is actively seeking a dynamic, strategic, and profoundly hands-on Talent Development Manager to assume the leadership role in spearheading the growth and strategic cultivation of its most critical asset: its human capital.

The Mission: Architecting a High-Performance and Future-Ready Culture

The Talent Development Manager, who will be permanently based in Ikeja, Lagos, will transcend the typical responsibilities of merely coordinating training sessions. This individual is envisioned as the chief architect of PalmPay’s comprehensive learning culture.

The Manager will be responsible for the full lifecycle design, meticulous implementation, and strategic oversight of high-impact learning initiatives. These initiatives are designed to directly and measurably boost workforce capability, significantly sharpen employee performance, and secure a robust leadership pipeline essential for the company’s sustained future expansion. This is an end-to-end learning lifecycle role suitable for an accomplished professional who excels at transforming high-level strategic insights into tangible, demonstrable employee growth outcomes.

Key Impact Areas & Core Responsibilities

The role requires a dedicated focus across four critical domains of talent development:

1. Learning Strategy & Curricular Innovation

  • Needs Identification: The Manager will establish close collaborative partnerships with Human Resources and senior business leaders to conduct incisive skill gap analyses and accurately identify crucial organizational learning and development needs.
  • Intervention Design: Responsibility includes the conceptualization, comprehensive design, and management of targeted, high-value development programs, encompassing bespoke curricula for leadership, essential technical proficiencies, and critical soft skills.
  • Modern Learning Advocacy: The role involves championing and driving innovative, blended learning approaches (including advanced e-learning, microlearning modules, gamification, and virtual delivery methods) to ensure maximum engagement, scalability, and impact of all training programs.

2. Program Execution & Operational Leadership

  • Facilitation & Oversight: The Manager will personally facilitate highly engaging in-house workshops and expertly manage external training vendors to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, and aligned program content.
  • Team Guidance: The incumbent will be expected to guide and mentor a dedicated, small team of training officers and administrators, guaranteeing a smooth, efficient, and impactful rollout of all development programs.
  • Integration Support: The role includes providing robust support for the accelerated integration of all new hires through the strategic design and delivery of engaging onboarding and orientation programs.

3. Talent, Performance, & Succession Management

  • Pipeline Strategy: The Manager will drive the establishment of strategic succession planning protocols and career development frameworks specifically designed to cultivate and build a robust and sustainable leadership pipeline.
  • Performance Alignment: Responsibility includes ensuring that all learning initiatives are directly and demonstrably linked to performance management outcomes, thereby actively reinforcing a company-wide culture of continuous improvement.
  • Mentorship Enhancement: The Manager will oversee the strategic operation and enhancement of organizational mentoring and professional coaching programs across all established business units.

4. Measurement, Governance, & Strategic Reporting

  • Strategic Reporting: A core function involves meticulously tracking, analytically reviewing, and reporting on the overall effectiveness of all development programs. This requires using robust key metrics such as Training Return on Investment (ROI), quantifiable employee performance improvement data, and platform adoption rates.
  • Regulatory Compliance: The Manager must ensure that all mandatory regulatory training (e.g., Compliance, Data Privacy, and other Human Resources training requirements) is seamlessly delivered, thoroughly documented, and accurately tracked across the organization.

Essential Qualifications for the Role

The successful candidate will demonstrate a blend of strong academic background, specialized professional experience, and exceptional core competencies.

Background & Expertise

  • Academic Credentials: Attainment of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline is mandatory. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., CIPD, ATD, SHRM-CP/SCP) is highly regarded and considered a strong competitive advantage.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive, dedicated, and hands-on experience in Learning & Development or Talent Management is required, with ideal exposure gained within a fintech, banking, or hyper-growth organizational setting.
  • Track Record: Demonstrable and quantifiable success in the comprehensive design, strategic implementation, and rigorous evaluation of large-scale training and development initiatives is essential.

Core Skills & Managerial Competencies

  • Exceptional Facilitation: Possesses outstanding presentation, professional training, and coaching skills that effectively command an audience, drive high engagement, and ensure knowledge transfer.
  • Strategic Acumen: The ability to transition seamlessly from high-level strategic planning and architectural design to tactical, detail-oriented, and high-quality execution.
  • Digital Learning Proficiency: Strong functional and strategic knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS), modern e-learning platforms, and the latest digital learning tools and methodologies.
  • Stakeholder Management: Demonstrates superior communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills required to effectively advise, influence, and build consensus with leaders and colleagues across all organizational levels.
  • Data-Driven Mindset: Exhibits a deeply analytical mindset with an unyielding focus on measuring tangible impact, calculating the financial return on investment (ROI) of learning initiatives, and using data to inform program evolution.

Compensation & Value Proposition

Yearly, professionals from all works of life in Nigeria research for the right schools for an MBA degree. While some take to full-time MBA programmes, others opt for Part-time or distance-learning MBA degree. In my own view, it is better to opt for an Online or Part-time MBA course than the full-time. The difference between the two is that in the full-time, the student is required to be physically present at campus site, while in the Online or distance-learning category, the student has his training and course delivery done via online media such as the internet.
